This
is my political collage – of the lives lost in senseless acts of
terrorism, of the Pyrrhic victory in the war against Iraq.
Here the peaceful Van Goghian starry, starry night is scattered into pieces over a menacing orange backdrop. The New York Skyline, with the smoldering Twin Tower juxtaposes a quiet village at dusk. Life as we know it will never be the same again post 9/11. The green rows of rifles of solders kill in action, regardless of which faction they are from poignantly echoes the city skyline. On the right, President Bush and his ally, Premier Howe joy-rides a fighter plane, whilst on the left, the newly crowned, Miss Pyrrhic lifts her arms in triumph, but too ashamed to show her face. This image is a flip-over image of a photograph by Dora Maar, Picasso’s wife and muse for his “Weeping Woman” paintings. Materials
used: Ink-jet print on paper, Acrylic paint, ribbon, |
