Mondrian's Modern Garden Design |
|
This collage is a continuation of my
collages using images from the works of Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian, whose works
I greatly admire.
Here two of Mondrian’s images are given a humorous garden theme. The outer grid is based on his 1936 work “Composition with Red and Blue” and within two of the grids are pieces from his 1911/1912 “Landscape with Trees”. In this earlier work, he was inserting shapes within black lines.
So in the same manner, within the grids
formed in this collage, I have inserted shapes: The “Red” becomes flowers reminiscent of his “Amaryllis” illustration. The Blue stays blue but with wooden plant boxes on it, again echoing the grids. Supervising this garden structure is a perplexed gardener, who, on closer inspection, is revealed to be none other than Mondrian himself, superimposed on a borrowed body of a gardener. |
