"Flamingo" - 53 feet steel sculpture by Alexander Calder
Federal Plaza, Dearborn and Adams Street, Chicago

I was captivated by Chicago's architectural beauty and the vast array of sculptures that adorn the city. On seeing this gigantic sculpture, I was reminded of the stage setting for the Sydney Dance company production of  "Salome". There the set design had a definite spidery feel with Salome dangling from the underbelly of the spider and  weaving her web of trickery.  My immediate response was that of being captured by this creature just as  I was captured by Chicago. It was only later that I learnt what the sculpture was.

When I was working on some abstract paintings, I noticed some semblance in one of my paintings to this scene in Chicago, so the painting underwent some adjustments to become part of this series on America.
