Wiped out - Washington

Washington, like New York has a hold on me. Every corner I turn to in the Capital is filled with potent memories of special times in days gone by. I arrived in Washington on 25 September 1999 on what would have been my seventeenth wedding anniversary.  A day spent visiting the various memorials, in particular the Vietnam War memorial, the Korean War memorial, Arlington cemetery, left me  totally wiped out emotionally. I grieved for my lost one and for all the lives lost in so many senseless?!@?  wars.

In this painting "Wiped Out", to symbolized the erasure of lives, I have chosen  Claes Oldenberg's monument of a  typewriter eraser as the accompanying sculpture.  It replaces the fountain in front of the White House whose lawn has merged with that of Arlington cemetery and the Vietnam War memorial
