Different views of Zion National Park

This is the second of my paintings on the canyons of America. The beautiful canyons in Zion National Park reflected the palette of Cézanne, so this painting of the Kolob Terraces of Zion, started out in a Cézanne-style composition and brush-stroke. 
However, it soon asserted itself and the figure that is in it now loomed at me and demanded to be painted. The painting takes its name from the Virgin River which cuts through Zion and has been instrumental to its formation.
